Update 7/27/10 Almost all universal waste has been collected and is being prepped for proper disposal. The north tunnel should be cleared. The southern tunnel work continues and the supervisor expects to get it visually inspected by the end of Wednesday. The crew has started demolition in some of the first floor office spaces removing all carpet and if needed floor tile, as well as all drop down ceiling material and mechanical material. The temporary fence was put it place yesterday. 7/20/2010 The center attic space is completed and has been visually inspected. Crews will continue final cleaning of the north attic space as well as complete the women's bathroom pipe chase. They have began setting up containment in the basement. Abatement in the tunnels will begin and it is anticipated to be completed by the end of business on Wednesday, July 21. Currently waiting for approval to punch controlled holes in the plaster ceiling of the lab for abatement. 6/22/2010 At the June 21 City Council Meeting, Council approved a contract with EDG, LLC, for the asbestos abatement program at Calamityville. A pre-construction meeting will be scheduled in the near future to begin this first step in the clean up of the Calamityville site. Upon completion of the asbestos abatement Wright State University staff will occupy the building and begin their work. 6/11/2010 Bids were opened on June 10, 2010 for asbestos abatement clean up activity. Bids are currently under review and a recommendation will be taken to City Council in the near future. Additional soil sample activities are going on to better delineate the clean up parameters on the site. 6/1/2010 The City of Fairborn has hired The Payne Group as consultant and manager for the remedial clean up activities of Calamityville. During the week of 6/1/10, soil samples will be collected at the known locations where soil needs further analysis. The following week, the Payne Group will be installing injection wells to treat the TCE (trichloroethylene) with potassium permanganate. Bids for asbestos abatement will be opened on June 10, 2010. The city is also working with Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber to design a water main extension that will service the facility with potable drinking water. |
