On June 17, 2002, Peter T. Bales, formerly the Recreation Program Supervisor for the City of Beavercreek, assumed the responsibilities of the Parks & Recreation Superintendent.
Bales received a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University in September 1994. He majored in recreation education and placed emphasis on administration. Over the years, Peter has expanded his knowledge by attending numerous seminars and workshops related to topics such as playground safety, park maintenance and management, and NRPA tennis management. He annually attends the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Conference to stay abreast of the latest trends in parks and recreation. Peter holds a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certificate and is a certified clinician for the National Youth Sports Coaches Association.
While attending college, Bales worked as an Intern for the OSU Recreation and Intramural Department scheduling games for over 250 intramural soccer teams and evaluating sportsmanship and official ratings. In May 1994, he assumed the responsibilities of the Recreation Supervisor for the Columbus (Ohio) Recreation and Parks Department. In this capacity, he supervised summer baseball leagues, evaluated the coaches and umpires, coordinated game classes for youth, and supervised the open gym. In addition, he has experience as an Assistant Football Coach with Worthington City Schools and as an Assistant Basketball Coach with Bishop Hartley High School in Columbus.
In July 1996, Peter accepted the Recreation Assistant’s position with the City of Beavercreek. In July 1997, he was promoted to Recreation Program Supervisor where he coordinated sports leagues, leisure classes, cultural arts program, and special community events. In addition, he supervised the full-time and seasonal staff and oversaw the program operations at 22 park locations.
He is a member of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association where he serves as the Chairman for the Ethical Practices Committee. He is also an active member of the National Parks and Recreation Association.
