Recreation in Fairborn

The Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division feels there is something for everyone when it comes to recreational fun. Many of the activities are annual events, and new activities have been added. 

Thanksgiving Flower Centerpiece - November 25, 2014

Learn basic floral design principles as you create a beautiful thanksgiving arrangement for your home or to give as a wonderful hostess gift. Step-by-step instructions will be given and all flowers and materials are included in the fee. Registration ends on Tuesday, November 11.  Click here for registration form 

Junk Journal - December 11, 2014

Handcraft your own Junk Journal. We'll start from scratch and construct your journal, then you'll decorate it in your favorite color, your style and your personality. Refillable two-ring binder assembly so you can add, remove, arrange and rearrange your memories, thoughts and ideas. Festive Fresh Holiday Centerpiece - December 16, 2014

Create a gorgeous Christmas centerpiece that will wow your family and guests over the holidays. This beautiful centerpiece will add sparkle to your home throughout the holiday season or would make a lovely handmade holiday gift. All flowers and materials are included in the fee. Poinsettia Painting - December 17, 2014
Learn how to paint a poinsettia plant using shades of red and green paints. Keep your piece of art or create it as a special gift for someone near and dear to you! 8 x 10 canvas art supplies are included in the fee. Acrylic paint does not come out of clothes so please wear old clothes. Registration ends on Monday, December 15.  Click here for printable registration form.  


The Annual Fishing Derby (May)

The Annual Fishing Derby takes place on a Saturday in May at Community Park Pond. Prizes are awarded for catching the most fish, the longest fish, and the heaviest fish. Prior to the derby there is a class (see form below) for adolescents ages 4 – 17, which teaches casting, knot tying, and fish identification, is offered and limited to the first 40 registrants. A fishing license is not required, but you will need to bring your pole, bait and basket.

The Fairborn Farmer’s Market (April – October)

Each Wednesday from April until the end of October, the Fairborn Farmers’ Market opens mid-morning to early afternoon at the corner of Main Street and Grand Avenue in the Fifth-Third Commons. Patrons can purchase fresh floral arrangements, baked goods, farm-grown produce, herbs, honey, preserves and other related items. All vendors must follow the Cottage Food Rules and have a signed Farmers’ Market Agreement on file with the City.

Summer Youth Programs (June – early August)

Youth ages 6-12 can celebrate summer with the Parks and Recreation Division! Each camp will have a different theme with activities that will provide fun experiences along with opportunities for youth to learn new things and make new friends.

Softball Leagues (Summer and Fall Leagues)

Fairborn runs a summer softball league with registration beginning in December, and a fall softball league for with registration in July. Most leagues are limited to six teams.

Tennis League (June – August)

Fairborn's Tennis Leagues provide singles and doubles matches for the tennis enthusiasts. League space is limited so register early. Registration is open to anyone, high school age or older.

Fairborn’s Annual 5K (July)

Fairborn’s Annual 5K run takes place on a Saturday in July at 8:00 a.m. at Rona Hills Park, 600 Roehner Drive. Pre-registration takes place prior to July 1 and many door prizes are made available for those pre-registering (participants must be present to win door prizes). Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in various age group awards for male and female. Refreshments are provided at the end of the race.
